SUNDAY, April 30: PJ Rangers maintained their unbeaten run in the 2017 FAM Cup season with a 2-1 victory over Penjara FC at the MBPJ Stadium.

With second placed Terengganu City FC losing 3-0 away to Kuching FA, the Rangers are now three points clear at the top of the Group B table.

Although Penjara FC are rooted at the bottom of the table, they are no pushovers and proved a point by taking the lead against the run of play.

Zulhelmy Jumai took advantage of a goalmouth melee and slotted the opening goal past Fadzley in the Rangers goal in the 12th minute.

Stung by the goal, Mat Zan’s boys pushed hard and came close to an equaliser minutes later.

A cross from J.Thanasegar found Khairul Naim who beat the keeper only to see his effort cleared off the line.

The Rangers survived a scare after Fadzley saved an attempt from Zulhelmy only to see Mohamad Azeem shoot just wide off the rebound.

The hosts had to wait till the 35th minute to find the equaliser. Off a corner, Zamri Hassan rose above the Penjara FC defenders to head home.

The Rangers only had to wait three minutes after the restart to take the lead.

Khairul Naim’s trademark curling freekick rebounds off the corner of the post but skipper Abdullah Yusuf was on hand to drive home.

Despite a late push from the visitors, PJ Rangers held on for the win and three valuable points.
