SUNDAY, May 4: AirAsia Allstars FC bowed out of the 2017 Football Association of Selangor’s (FAS) Super League after a 2-0 loss to Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB FC) in the semi-final last night.
Despite the exit, AAFC can hold their heads up high for their admirable spirit and determination that characterized their football journey this season.
Aside from being champions for consecutive seasons, PNSB FC is also known for their strength in attack that would be a test for AirAsia Allstars FC’s defensive unit, under the leadership of the team captain, Syamsol Sabtu.
The match started with a cautious approach from both teams on a playing surface already slick and slippery due to the heavy rain that preceded. AirAsia Allstars FC carved an opening from a wonderfully worked move on the right side of the pitch by Hilmi Rosli but the attempt was just wide of the PNSB FC’s goalpost.
PNSB FC seem intent to utilize the pace of their wingers in attack by releasing the ball as early as possible to the flanks and this tactic almost worked by the half hour mark when a dangerous cross was floated in and AirAsia FC’s goalkeeper, Andee Khafeez almost fumbled but managed to quickly recover.
The score was even at the break and both sets of players seem to struggle with the condition of the playing field with players suffering cramps.
The second half saw a much improved performance from both teams with chances created end-to-end but were ultimately denied by poor finishing. The presence of PNSB FC’s strikers in AirAsia Allstars FC’s penalty box took a turn for the worse when Mohamad Hilmi Rosli fouled Mohamed Asyraf which left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. Asyraf picked himself up and slotted the ball home to open the scoring in the 61st minute.
Most teams would fold and stare at defeat helplessly, but not our players, not AirAsia FC and most certainly not an Allstar. Even at one nil down, the spirit, courage and never-say-die attitude shone throughout the rest of the match. There was one moment in play when 3 PNSB FC’s attackers managed to break free following a corner up against only 2 AirAsia Allstars FC defenders who somehow managed to divert the play with their fierce defensive organization and cleared the danger.
Waves of attack afterwards as AirAsia Allstars FC tried to search for an equalizer were finally undone when PNSB FC scored with literally the last kick of the game through their influential skipper, Badrul Hisyam.
The final score was AirAsia Allstars FC 0 – PNSB FC 2. Please join us in congratulating our boys who made it to the semi-final stage and in true Allstars spirit, let’s get up and try again!
TUESDAY, April 25: AirAsia Allstars FC qualified for the semi-final of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) Super League after a 3-0 win over Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) at the Salak Tinggi Stadium tonight.
Daniel Ashraf gave AAFC the lead in the 21st minute. A cross from substitute S. Kumaresan found Khairul Azahar Eidros whose shot was parried by the MBSA keeper, the rebound fell to Daniel who calmly slotted home.
Playing with a passion and determination that surprised the opponents, AAFC kept the pressure but were unable to add to the tally.
It was more of the same after the break with the shellshocked MBSA players reeling from the assault by the Allstars – who by the way only train two days a week after work.
With the high workrate shown by our Allstars – led by a the very impressive skipper Mohamad Syamsol Sabtu – it was inevitable that the next goal would come from the Red Jets. Mohamad Hilmi Rosli stepped up to take a freekick from the left of the box in the 51st minute and curled it into goal past the stunned MBSA keeper.
Khairul capped a fine performance with a injury time goal to seal the win.
AirAsia Allstars FC will face Permodalan Nasional Sdn Bhd (PNSB) in the semi-final.
If you see any of these Allstars at work – at the tarmac, hangars, behind the counters or at RedQ – be sure to give them a slap on the back for a job well done.
Many thanks to all the Allstars who turned up to support the team. Your (very noisy) presence was an inspiration!
See you at the semi-final!
